ROBOTICS AND MECHATRONICS

ROBOTICS AND MECHATRONICS

The prime intention of mechatronics is to produce a design solution that unifies each of the various subfields of Engineering like electronics, mechanical, electrical, control systems, optics, and robotics.. Originally, the field of mechatronics was intended a combination of mechanics and electronics, hence the name; but later on, as the complexity of technical systems continued to evolve, the definition had been broadened to include more technical areas.
Robotics is a scientific and engineering discipline which is focused on the understanding and use of artificial, embodied capabilities. The people who work in this field are from mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, information engineering, computer science, and other fields. On the engineering side, roboticists deal with the design, construction, operation, and use of robots, especially through computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing. On the scientific side, roboticists study how a robot’s environment and design affect and how well it does its job.Today, robotics is a rapidly growing field, as technological advances continue, researching, designing, and building new robots serve various practical purposes, whether domestically, commercially, or militarily. Often robots are built to do jobs that are hazardous to people.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
It will be a great opening for Mechanical Engineers to start a career in the emerging field of Robotics and Mechatronics. Robotics engineers design, test, and build robots that are productive and safe to operate as well as economical to purchase and maintain. They may use computer-aided design and drafting, and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems to perform their tasks. Robotics research engineers design robotic systems and research methods for their economical manufacturing. Robotics engineers who work for robot manufacturers are often known as robotics test engineers or automation system engineers. These engineers apply the robotic system to a particular use on a manufacturing assembly line. They are also responsible for creating an integrated environment between people and machinery.
Mechatronics engineers work in all aspects of the development of the smart machine from design and testing to manufacture. This could be in industries like robotics, medical and assistive technology, human-machine interaction, manufacturing, unmanned aerial and ground vehicles and education.
